Why Restoration Matters

Environmental vigilance is not only about watching for harmful decisions or responding when land, water, wildlife, and communities are threatened. It’s also about helping repair what has been depleted and strengthening the living systems that sustain us.

Restoration gives people a way to move from concern into meaningful, place-based action—by rebuilding habitat, protecting soil and water, supporting biodiversity, planting native species, and caring for the land already within their reach.

EVA believes lasting environmental protection must include both resistance to preventable harm and active participation in creating healthier, more resilient communities.

Start with the Place You Already Care For

You don’t need to own acres of land or undertake a major restoration project to make a meaningful difference. A yard, school, business, neighborhood entrance, community space, or shoreline can become part of a healthier and more connected local ecosystem.

For residents of Walworth County who would like practical, locally informed guidance, the Geneva Lake Conservancy offers Conservation@Home, Conservation@Work, Conservation@HOA, and Conservation@School programs.

Participants can receive recommendations for adding native plants, supporting pollinators and wildlife, controlling invasive species, improving soil and water retention, reducing erosion, and creating more sustainable landscapes.

Walworth County Guidance & Support:

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources offers a step-by-step introduction to native landscaping for homeowners and land stewards throughout the state.

The guide can help you begin identifying your goals, understanding your property, choosing suitable plants, and creating habitat at a scale that fits your space.

The Geneva Lake Conservancy helps Walworth County residents transform yards and shared spaces into healthier habitats for people, wildlife, pollinators, soil, and water. Its Conservation@Home and related programs offer practical, property-specific guidance for native planting, invasive-species control, erosion reduction, water retention, and sustainable landscaping.
